Premium Leather Vs Standard Leather
We often receive questions about the difference between our premium leather and the standard leather. Here is brief description of each leather type.
Our Premium Leather is same as the full grain leather, which is the outermost layer of cowhide, but the epidermis is treated to remove any imperfections and to gain uniformity in the leather texture. The premium leather, being the outmost layer, is the strongest and offers better water resistance. If feels supple and develops a natural skin tone over short period of use.
Standard leather is created from the fibrous part of the hide left once the full-grain of the rawhide has been separated from the hide. During the splitting operation, the top-grain and drop split are separated. The drop split can be further split (thickness allowing) into a middle split and a flesh split. In very thick hides, the middle split can be separated into multiple layers until the thickness prevents further splitting. Split leather then has an artificial layer applied to the surface of the split and is embossed with a leather grain. Comparing with premium leather, it has the same thickness but it feels hard and is not as strong as the premium leather. Additionally, it wears off quickly compared to premium leather.
